The essentials

You definitely need to pack these!

General items

Passport & eVisa: You won’t even see Windhoek without it. Depending on your citizenship you will need a visa.

Completed arrival form: Download and print out the arrival form that is submitted at the airport. It might save you some time in the queue.

Backpack: For day trips and short excursions

Re-usable water bottle: Navigate the dark and see where you go to avoid snakes and scorpions

Jacket & long trousers: Yes, it can be cold & windy in Namibia so you will regret to leave them at home.

Travel adapter: Namibia uses Type-D outlets. Some accommodations may not provide an adapter in the room.

Phone charger: Did we need to mention this? Surely you have packed it already.

Beware of the sun

Sunscreen: Namibia’s sun is very harsh so take along high SPF sunscreen. It’s fairly expensive over here!

Sunglasses: They don’t just look cool but also protect your eyes of course.

Hat or Cap: Preferably a wide-brimmed hat to protect your head against the sun.

On safari

Binoculars: Of course you need binoculars for safari!

Flashlight: Navigate the dark and see where you go to avoid snakes and scorpions.

UV-Light: If you don’t want to avoid scorpions, bring a UV light to find them. Especially in the south.

Neutral-colored clothing: You don’t want to wear neon colours on safari right? Neutral-colored clothing including khaki, brown, olive green and beige blend in well with the environment.

Hiking boots: What happens on safari stays on safari. No but seriously, bring your hiking boots along.

Relaxation

Swimwear: To enjoy the pool at the lodges. Our ocean is a little cold – unless you are up for a freezing adventure!

Flip Flops: It’s a holiday isn’t it? So bring along your sandals for the pool.

The extras

You might need to pack these as well

Rainy season: December to April

Waterproof jacket: If you’re stuck out in the rain for some reason.

More long trousers: It can get cold on a cloudy evening.

Zip Lock Bag: You can place your phone inside to protect it from rain water.

Cold season: April to August

Jacket & long trousers: You will need a lot of this. Namibia can get freezing temperatures in the evening and early morning during winter.

Beanie: Early morning safari in winter? You better have a beanie on your head! Your ears will thank you.

Medication

Hay-fever: If you have hay-fever, take some Antihistamines along.

Malaria: Discuss your travel plans with your health practitioner and consider antimalarial medications if you go to northern Namibia or Caprivi region.

Insect repellent: Even in low-risk malaria areas, the mosquitoes can be annoying. Insect repellent helps, alternatively we have a repellent called “Peaceful Sleep” over here that helps to keep the mosquitoes away.

Electrolytes: It helps to have them around, dehydration happens quick in the hot Namibian sun.

Other items

WiFi hotspot device: If you only have one sim card slot you should probably take along a WiFi hotspot device. Esims don’t work well in Namibia so you should buy a prepaid sim card, top it up and put it into your WiFi hotspot.

Multi-tool: For 1,000 different reasons.
